Type Tab

On the type tab, you can perform three actions

  1. Edit type name for this group
  2. Add or remove child types for this group
  3. Add or remove active tabs for this group

Every group in the Condence must have a type. The name of the type can be freely chosen to match your business. It can be for example country, factory, site, device, vehicle, crane, or whatever your business requires. The name of the type is displayed in the group tree side by side with the group’s name.

For example, if you are running a construction company, group hierarchy can be arranged in the following way:

  • group name: ‘Your Company Ltd.’       group type: ‘Your Company Ltd.’
    • group name: ‘Finland’       group type: ‘Country’
      • group name: ‘Helsinki’            group type: ‘City’
        • group name: ‘Construction site 123’      group type: ‘Site’
          • group name: ‘Crane ABC’                group type: ‘Crane’
          • group name: ‘Crane DEF’             group type: ‘Crane’
          • group name: ‘High pressure pump’  group type: ‘Pump’
          • group name: ‘Dumper’                     group type: ‘Vehicle’
          • group name: ‘Office building’          group type: ‘Building’
          • group name: ‘Flat building’              group type: ‘Building’
        • group name: ‘Construction site 456’     group type ‘Site’
          • etc…
      • group name: ‘Tampere’           group type: ‘City’
        • group name: ‘Construction site 789’     group type: ‘Site’
          • etc…

The type has two purposes: it’s easier to see from the group tree immediately what type of asset this current group is representing, and it is checked by the system that the wrong type of asset cannot be moved under the group where a certain type is not allowed.

Please note that a Type has only one view template in them. This means that, for example, a type called Building will share a view template between them. All types with the same name will have identical monitoring UI views. Metrics are, of course, device-specific. It is impossible to change something in one view with the same type and not in the other with the same type. It would require creating a new type.
